In our whole lives, we're looking for serotonin and dopamine. We're finding it in social media clicks and how many likes we get on our Instagram. We're finding it in caffeine, we're finding it in alcohol, we're finding it in marijuana, we're finding it in harder drugs, we're finding it in getting rewards from other people, we're finding it in sex, we're finding it in everything. But there's one common thread everywhere: we're looking for dopamine outside of ourselves. 

So it's like we're living in a giant, reactionary state of happiness where we're waiting for something to give us dopamine. I'm going to give you a number one hack that will change your vibe. It'll change your brain, and it will change your life. So, on long road trips, my wife and I used to play this game where we would see who could smile the longest and we would just sit in the car, kind of like dumb and dumber, you know. We would just sit in the car and go. But then the craziest thing started happening.

We're Searching For Dopamine From Everything

I started to feel really good when I did it, and more than that, I started to notice how much of my life I had a disposition to not do that. What happens is we've got a bunch of stress and a bunch of baggage that's accumulated throughout our entire life, and it stops us from being happy. Think about that. Like, we're normally like this, but what happens if you just go like this? They're doing so many studies on depression, treating depression with psychedelic substances, with all of these amazing discoveries. You can really natural ways to increase dopamine instead of turning to drugs.

What does it show us? It shows us that stress and depression are prolonged because we're searching for dopamine from everything. We're searching for it from relationships, we're searching for it from sex, we're searching for it from scrolling through our phones. Guess what the behavioral scientists at Apple and Facebook know about how to trigger dopamine. Every single, solitary second counts. So we live our whole lives from a reactionary consciousness, waiting for something good to happen so we can smile. Make sure you do it when you're alone, so nobody calls the cops on you and thinks you're crazy. Really think about it. Why don't we do it? Just notice your body when you do this. Take a deep breath in and out and smile. When you take a deep breath in and out and you smile, do you notice something? You notice the muscles, right? Relax, you notice the muscles in your back. Relax. You notice the muscles that are all in our faces because we're like clinched from stress for so long. Those things relax, and do you know what else happens when you smile?

Your brain doesn't know the difference between what's real and what's not real. What is a personality trait of stress? I'm just always stressed. All of this is a learned habit that is then neurologically reinforced. The brain gets conditioned neurochemically to operate in that way. That's all it is, and you can change it. You don't have to wait for something to be made. You feel good, you could just go. Imagine if you brought that into everything you did. Like before this video, I just smiled for a minute or two. Why? Because I want to be an instrument for inspiration.

I want to communicate as efficiently and as clearly as I can. If I activate that serotonin, that dopamine, I get those good chemicals firing. I'm going to think clearly. I'm going to have higher levels of oxygenation for everything. It's a game changer. So, let's start a new trend. Let's start a new trend where instead of waiting for something else to make us smile, let's go like this and then you'll feel it. Doesn't it feel good? I know it feels good. Remember, your brain doesn't know the difference between what's real and what's not real. Eventually, you will learn natural ways to increase dopamine.

So instead of waiting for something else outside of you to release dopamine, why don't you be the creator of your own happiness and your own serotonin and dopamine levels? Then you realize those things outside of you that maybe you've been attached to that really aren't that great for you, but you get a little dopamine and serotonin hit from them. Maybe they loosen their grip on you because you realize you're the creator of your own happiness and you're the creator of your own reality.
