Basically, what happened in this study was that the researchers asked a group of 24 participants to imagine 16 different scenarios while they were awake in a brain scanner. Then, on the highest level, it was completely vivid; it felt real. Imagine listening to their excited voice tell you that their goals have been achieved. Imagine they're calling you to congratulate you on being the top salesperson in the county. It's fine if you haven't had any negative phone calls with friends; instead, what you want to do is simply imagine a fictitious phone call. So pick a specific person. So you imagine this with vividness, hear their voice, see their facial expressions, and see your own facial expressions where you're excited.
